Hello and welcome to the home of ESF! For those who are new or those who want to know a little bit more about me, here’s my story 🙂

I have a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Biology from the Florida State University. I have worked for the Department of Defense as a contractor in a physiology laboratory in an experimental unit of the Navy. I am a second author on a paper published in the Journal of Applied Physiology dealing with exercise performance, physiological responses to stress, heart rate, VO2/VO2 max, and diving physiology. Currently, I am working on my Ph.D. in Fisheries at Texas A&M. In my free time, I enjoy staying active by working out, playing sports, competing in triathlons and obstacle course races, SCUBA diving, paddle boarding, and playing with my pup, Hank.

I was a student athlete during both my undergraduate (2006-2008) and graduate (2008-2011) programs at Florida State University. I competed in the heptathlon (100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin, and 800m), triple jump, 4x400m relays, 100m, and finally specialized in javelin for my last two years of eligibility. In addition to my own collegiate athletics career, I am now a volunteer assistant coach for multi-year national championship track and field teams at Texas A&M, where I work with athletes in strength and conditioning, rehabilitation, and event-specific training. I have the privilege of not only working with top-level athletes, but also with top-level, world-renowned coaches, doctors, and training staff.

Along the way, I have created my own brand of fitness and health advice and motivation via the social-media and blog-based “Erin Simmons Fitness”. Over the course of the last three years, my following has grown from zero to over 15,000 and it’s been so much fun to watch this community grow! I enjoy answering fitness questions, giving diet and nutrition advice, and providing general motivation for those making their way down a path towards better health and better bodies. I recently started my own athletic training company and hope to one day build a facility that will cater to the needs of a diverse demographic, from stay-at-home moms to professional athletes. I believe in the importance of holistic health and utilizing all aspects of fitness, including strength training, sprint training, diet and nutrition, chiropractic work, massage therapy, yoga, and maintaining psychological health. Through proper utilization of these methods, I hope to effectively personalize each person’s journey to whole body health and peak performance.

Oh and keep a look out for work that I do with the non-profit organization, Infinity and Beyond, to help raise money for under-funded areas of cancer research. I’ll have more details on that as events come and go, but in the meantime, check out their website to see what this organization is all about!

Thanks again for following the blog! If you want to follow on other social media, you can find me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube!

Keep up the great work! Your enthusiasm for fitness motivates us all. I see your pic of the day it helps me push myself. I enjoyed the vid of your abs workout on facebook and tried out a few of them. I almost fell off the ball when doing the alternating elbow to knee crunches lol but got the hang of it after a few more tries. I’ll suggest something….How about you post your workout of the day. Kind of like your pic of the day but tell us how your workout went and what you did. Other than that I’m excited to see how this blog turns out. Good luck with everything.

    • Thanks, Frank! I’m glad you tried out the ab exercises. I’m sure you will get the hang of it no problem, but yes it takes a bit of practice because a lot of times we don’t work those small, balancing muscles! I like your idea for posting workouts, but it may have to be the “workout of the week” instead of doing it each day. Thanks for the suggestion!
